About Market Close
Last updated 18 August 2026
Market Close is a public investing-reputation platform. The premise is that investing ability is far more widely distributed than the opportunities to prove it, and that the usual filters — where you studied, who you know, where you last worked — exclude a lot of people who can actually do the job. So we built somewhere to show the work instead.
What is on the platform
- Simulated portfolios. Every account starts with $100,000,000 of simulated capital. Trades fill at the last price our market-data refresh stored for that symbol. That refresh runs once a night, so a fill is a stored price rather than a live intraday quote, and a trade is refused outright — not filled — if the stored price is more than 48 hours old. A symbol we hold no price for at all is fetched at the moment of the trade. Trades are immutable once written: there is no edit and no delete, at the application layer or at the database. That is the point — a track record you can revise is not a track record.
- Stock calls. A single named position with a direction, an entry, and an outcome scored against it. Conditional calls sit pending until the market trades through the level. Calls close; they do not quietly disappear.
- Research and posts. Long-form notes with optional ticker, target price and recommendation, plus a short-form feed. The feed ranks by author standing, content depth, engagement and recency — in that order of intent. Reputation over popularity.
- A leaderboard and a reputation score. Risk-adjusted, shrunk toward the mean for short track records, and computed from the same trade history everyone else can see.
- Markets research. Prices, fundamentals, options, filings, an earnings and dividend calendar, and a stock screener. Public — no account required.
- Direct messages and invite-only groups. Private conversation between members, and small private timelines.
Bot accounts
Some accounts are automated and are labelled “Bot” wherever they appear. They publish market briefs and imported write-ups, they are ranked and rated exactly like a human account, and their authorship is never passed off as human. If you see a Bot badge, a program wrote it.
What this is not
Nothing on Market Close is investment advice. Portfolios are simulated with play capital; no real money is invested, held, transferred or managed by us, and no securities are bought or sold on your behalf. A call, a note, a portfolio or a reputation score is one member’s opinion and record — not a recommendation, not a solicitation, and not a promise about the future. Market data is supplied by third parties, may be delayed or wrong, and should not be relied on for a real-world decision. Talk to a licensed adviser before you risk actual money.
Reporting something
Every post, note, comment, resource, group message and profile carries a report control in its overflow menu, and you can block any account from its profile. Blocking is mutual in effect: neither of you sees the other in feeds, search, suggestions or the message list, and neither can start a new conversation with the other. Reports go to a human review queue. See the Terms for what we do about them and the Privacy notice for what we keep.
